The Good Brothers and House of Doc

The Good Brothers have gained a worldwide audience over the course of their accomplished career. Bruce Good and twin brother Brian, along with kid brother Larry, have been playing together all their lives, but started working professionally in the early '70s. They played simple music, straight from the heart that encompassed country, bluegrass, folk and the occasional page from the rock 'n' roll songbook. Fiddle tunes flowed, as did cover songs, highlighted by Larry's banjo breaks, Bruce's auto harp, their unique sibling harmonies and enough on-stage energy to burn down a cornfield. Thirty years and 14 albums later, the boys have gone through some personnel changes and personal growth. There have been eight straight Juno awards as Best Country Group, headline gigs at Massey Hall, a platinum album and twenty-one European tours.

They now come to BJ's Q Club and Sports Bar along with House of Doc on Thursday November 13!!

NASHVILLE PUSSY ALONG WITH GRADY Oct 14

It's been said that the devil has all the best tunes, but that's not the case anymore, since a lil' ol' band from Georgia -- known to friends and followers as Nashville Pussy -- found a way to pick the lock on that storehouse of demonic sonics and make off with some of its most incendiary contents.

While they've been at it for the better part of the decade, the band -- fronted by the hard-livin' hard-rockin' husband/wife team of Blaine Cartwright and Ruyter Suys -- has never been more intensely supercharged than on Get Some. The disc, their fourth full-length and first for Spitfire, offers heaping helpings of neck-snapping guitar riffage and a full-on embrace of the sort of good-time decadence that's part and parcel of life below the Mason-Dixon line. It also shows off Cartwright's razor-sharp wit, which permeates the disc with laugh-out-loud moments that'd do John Belushi proud.

Grady (formerly of Big Sugar) on the other hand puts on his own show that rocks the house. With the drummer from Stevie Raye Vaughn how could it not rock your world??

Coming to BJ's Q Club and Sports bar October 14!! DO NOT MISS THIS!!

PRISM

In the late 1960's, the Seeds of Time began the basis for what would eventually make up 80% of Prism. The group had a hit single, My Home Town, which was composed by Lindsay Mitchell in 1969 but suffered the fate of no Canadian market thrust. 10 years later, Lindsay Mitchell, Al Harlow, Rocket Norton, and John Hall would find themselves together again climbing the charts around the world.

But disaster struck on Christmas Eve, 1984. Ron Tabak was cycling across Vancouver to visit his friend and fellow bandmember Al Harlow. The two had planned to spend Christmas together. Harlow last saw Tabak on the afternoon of the 24th when he picked up some of his belongings in his car. Tabak decided he would cycle to Harlow's Kitsilano apartment as part of his "fitness program". Tabak was struck on the head as he was brushed by a passing vehicle at about 8pm. He had also been injured in a mugging the week earlier and already had stitches on the back of his head. He was brought to hospital by ambulance but was told there was nothing wrong with him. Tabak became abusive and was arrested by police who happened to be there at the time. Early Christmas Day, Tabak's mother was advised by telephone that he had been found unconscious in the police cells and had been returned to Burnaby Hospital and then transferred to Vancouver General.

Vancouver General told Mrs. Tabak her son's condition was grave: A scan examination had shown a blood clot on the right side of his brain, and a neurosurgeon was preparing to operate. He did not regain consciousness and died December 26, 1984.

With the death of their lead vocalist, Prism remained silent until May, 1988 when Al Harlow, Lindsay Mitchell, and Rocket Norton entered the studio with local artists Darcy Deutsch and Andy Lorimer to record a new single, Good to be Back. The new track, written by Harlow, Jim Vallance and Bryan Adams, outlines the 13 year history of the band including a small tribute to the late Ron Tabak. However, the strength of the new single was not enough to land a new record deal. But the band drove on and finally recorded a new album, Jericho, in 1992.

Prism is still rocking on stage playing outdoor concerts, festivals and clubs. The glory days of 80's Stadium Rock may be gone but Prism continues to deliver on stage wherever they play.

They now come to BJ's for one night only!! October 24 Friday night along with the buck five band. Don't miss it!

Blues Brother Revival

The Blues Brother Revival is the hippest, most authentic Blues Brothers Tribute show ever to hit the stage. Officially sanctioned by the Belushi Estate and Dan Aykroyd, these guys aren't messin' around! After several years working from coast to coast in the award winning Las Vegas show "Legends in Concert", they were approached by film maker Paul Jay of Jay Films about making a film based on their experiences working in "the city of sin" as the Blues Brothers. The outcome was A&E's highly praised docudrama "lost in Las Vegas". Now they're coming to BJ's Q Club October 2!!

Don't miss this one.

Peace Country's own Duane Steele September 25 at BJ's !!!

Duane Steele is among Canada's top country recording artists and songwriters with a professional career dating back to 1984.

Born and raised in the small Alberta Peace Country town of Hines Creek, music was a big part of Duane's life growing up. He fondly remembers parties at his parents home with everyone sitting around singing and playing various instruments. As teenagers Duane and his cousins started a band spending summers and weekends playing for weddings and community dances.

In 1984 Duane's professional career began, fronting the band Rock 'N' Horse. Their album, Highways, was released in 1991. Despite top 20 singles, non stop touring, and a Juno nomination for Country Band of the Year Rock 'N' Horse disbanded in 1993. Duane took this opportunity to pursue his goals as a recording artist and songwriter, landing a publishing contract with Warner Chapel in Nashville. This full time job as a staff songwriter allowed him the privilege of working with and learning from some of the most talented writers from the United States and Canada

In 1995 a showcase at Canadian Country Music Week in Calgary resulted in his signing a recording contract with Mercury Canada. Duane's solo debut album "PO Box 423" was released in February 1996 and saw his first three singles go Top 5 on the Canadian Country Charts, including the #1 Hit "Anita Got Married". His sophomore release "This Is The Life" was released a year and a half later and furthered his presence on the Canadian music charts with all six singles released achieving Top 30 chart position (two becoming Top 10 hits). In support of both albums Duane released seven music videos on CMT (three of which went to #1).

Touring and promoting became a way of life for Duane once again. He was on the road traveling with his CCMA award winning band opening for some of the hottest acts in country music including Shania Twain, Terri Clark, Trisha Yearwood, Sammy Kershaw, and Prairie Oyster. In 1997 Duane was the winner of the CCMA for Vocal Collaboration of the Year with Lisa Brokop for the single "Two Names On An Overpass".

In the spring of 1999 Duane returned to Canada to focus on his recording career. His third solo album "I'll Be Alright" was released in August 2000 with seven singles released to radio and three videos released to CMT. In 2001 Duane was rewarded for his first independently released album by winning the Independent Male Vocalist of the Year Award by the CCMA.

2004 saw the release of "Set List". A best of album including 17 radio singles from his three previous solo albums and three new songs that were released to radio. A video for the song "Better Man" was filmed in Calgary for CMT.

July 2006 is the release date of Duane's newest project "Ghost Town" which he co- produced with recording artist, songwriter, and producer Steve Fox. Duane is extremely proud of this 100% Canadian album! This is Duane's first time assisting with the production side of the recording process. He is also excited to have national distribution through Icon Records with Universal Canada. Duane's pure voice and natural stage presence makes his live shows a must see. Fans relate to his lyrics and song writing style. When he is not touring or working on his own projects he is often writing with other artists. Production has been a natural progression and he looks forward to working in this area while continuing his own solo career.

Vanilla Ice Coming BJ"S Q Club 21st of August!!!!

It's a true story that Video Killed the Radio Star because music should not be about image. Music should be about the music! I learned the hard way. The new Vanilla Ice is exactly that; no image, no polished made up gimmicks created by record companies. I will never be a puppet for the industry again. From this point on I will keep it real. That's why I didn't change the name. It doesn't mean anything; it's only a label. It's not important, plus I am not running from anything or trying to hide. I want people to know that I face my adversaries. Don't get me wrong, though I love Ice Ice Baby, I just can't stand the image that was created for me at that time. Even though it worked and we sold 17 million records, I was treated like a puppet just to make a Hip Hop artist look like a novelty act. I was not designed to be that. I was turned into that by making my image more acceptable to a younger audience, but to tell the difference just listen to the music. It's Hip Hop not Pop like all the other novelty acts.

The media has a way of glamorizing what it's like to be a celebrity, and that's where people get the illusion, but the reality of it is much different. I'm not speaking from just my own experiences. Take a look at the track record, it speaks for itself, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Elvis, and lately Kurt Cobain. These celebrities had a hard time dealing with the reality of being famous. Many used drugs to escape from reality just as I did. It was the only way to find peace and happiness. The thing was, no matter how high I got I still had to come back reality and face it all again. That's when the depression sets in. That's when you hit rock bottom and you either die from it or learn from it. I used to think that money would bring me happiness because I thought of all the material things that I could buy. After experiencing what it's like to be rich, I realized that you are not born with it and you also can't take it with you when you die. What's next?

In '94 I tried to kill myself by overdosing on heroin, cocaine, esctasy, and anything I could get my hands on. At one point, my friends were dumping buckets of cold water on me as I lay on my bathroom floor in convulsions. At that point I had over eighteen million dollars in the bank, and I still couldn't find happiness in being rich or famous. So, after waking up a couple of days later, I realized that I needed to make a change in everything and just go back to the things that used to bring me happiness, like Motocross. I met new friends and started to straighten my life up, and with the help of my family and my music I found new hope.

Now I have a new outlook on life and music. The music is for myself, not to be rich or famous. The new sound is also much harder and darker because of the issues I am writing about. It caters to a new crowd. It leans toward the body piercing, tattoo crowd aging from 15 to 25: the same crowd that you might find at a Korn, Limp Bizkit or Slipknot show. In fact, it was the producer of these bands, Ross Robinson, who produced my record "Hard to Swallow". I call this type of Hip Hop/Metal Molten Hip Hop. Stay tuned because the best has yet to come. Check out VanillaIce.com, my official website, for more info and updates.

Jordan Doell August 15 & 16

In a family of six children, there was one musical passion gene and it went straight from father to his son Jordan. Performing from the age of seven as a country and gospel soloist, Jordan later moved into rock n' roll and gained extensive experience as he toured throughout Western Canada playing the club circuit. The training of gospel proved an asset and in the mid 90's Jordan's powerful voice and energetic stage presence contributed to the success of popular local band, Slot 9. The band received airplay on Vancouver's 99.3 The Fox with a tune called "Green Face Out".

The last six years have seen Jordan rediscover his roots in country music and embrace its melodies and stories with newfound passion. "It's the story lines that appeal to me the most" say's Jordan, "They all have such great tales to tell". Once rediscovering his musical passion, there was no looking back. Jordan received a grant from Factor Canada, which helped him to complete a four song, self-titled demo CD featuring 'Hey Jones' and 'She Treats Me Bad'. Both songs have received airplay in Sweden on MCWC radio and in the Netherlands on BRTO Radio and Rucphen FM.

Two major influences have helped shape Jordan's style. The first is his experience with gospel music, introduced to him as a child by his dad. The gospel background helped hone and train his vocal skills while laying the groundwork for a professional caliber career. His second great influence is country icon George Jones.

Jordan has traveled to Nashville, TN and performed in some of the most famous honkytonks such as Tootsies Orchid Lounge, and The Bluebird Café. As well as his regular Lower Mainland circuit, performances include the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, Wine for the Cure 2005 & 2006 and several showcases with the BC Songwriters Association.

Recently, Jordan played along side the CCMA Awards in St. John, New Brunswick, and can be found entertaining crowds around the Western Canadian Coast. Locally he performs frequently at Gabby's Cabaret, McBurney's Coffee House, and The Roxy, as well as Citta Pub and Bistro in Whistler's Center Square.

"That's Me No More" - 2006 The CD "That's Me No More" launches Jordan Doell's premier songwriting and vocal artistry. The songs are as soulful as they are fun with a smooth rock edge and effortless vocal charm. His gospel trained voice lends to the songs with a smooth but edgy sound that stays true to traditional, story telling country, in a unique and gut given way.

The songs on "That's Me No More" are personal and crowd pleasing. They include the ever-popular song 'The Range', and a tender ballad called 'I Always Will', which is Jordan's proposal song, dedicated to his wife Tracey. Also on the album is 'Hankin' It Up' which references old Hank Williams as well as Brooks & Dunn.

These songs were written with a few co-writers in and around Vancouver, while Aaron Pritchett and Mitch Merrett offered up the title track, "That's Me No More". Most songs on the disc were written on the road. Inspired along the lonely stretches of highway while driving a semi truck, Jordan would keep himself awake with lyrics and melodies. 'Hankin' it Up' was the last song written and poured out on the I-5 southbound through Washington State.
